Frequently Asked Questions
– What is Microblading?
Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup, where color pigments are implanted beneath the surface of the skin, mimicking brow strokes. The process can greatly enhance the fullness, shape and symmetry of the brows.
– What is shading?
Shading is a technique that allows us to add more depth and definition to the brows. It provides a bit of filled in colored that works beautifully with the microbladed hair strokes. This technique can also be highly beneficial to clients with oily skin, working to preserve your color.
– How long does Microblading last?
Semi-permanent makeup means that your micro bladed brows will not wash off, though they will gradually fade. Generally, refresh appointments are needed around 12 to 18 months, though some may last 2 years or more. Factors that increase the need for touchups include: skin type (oily skin generally faded faster), aftercare, sun exposure, skin care (bleaching creams, chemical peels, etc), color of pigment used (darker colors fade more slowly). Final results cannot be predicted or guaranteed as each individual’s body and lifestyle varies. Your initial appointment is followed by a touchup at 6 to 8 weeks, beyond that, touchups are performed as needed and will be charged accordingly.
– What is the healing process?
Initially, your brows will appear darker and larger than expected. As the skin heals, the color will gradually soften. Scabbing and flaking may occur. Please carefully read and follow given aftercare instructions.
– Allergies?
Please provide information on any allergies you may have, prior to scheduling. A list of products and ingredients used is available upon request.
– Pregnant or nursing?
Unfortunately, as a precaution, I do not perform Microblading if you are pregnant or nursing.
– How does microblading differ from a standard tattoo?
Microblading is softer and more subtle than a conventional tattoo; it is meant to be a natural looking enhancement to you brows. Pigments, rather than ink as with a tattoo, are used in microblading. These pigments will gradually fade over time and are not semi-permanent rather than body art that is meant to last indefinitely.
– Does Microblading hurt?
A highly effective topical anesthetic cream and gel are used for numbing, prior to and during your procedure. Your comfort is a very high priority and every effort is made to keep any discomfort at a minimum. However, pain tolerance levels differ from person to person as well as skin sensitivity levels. During your menstral cycle you may experience increased sensitivity and discomfort; it is advisable to not schedule your procedure during this time. For heavy smokers, the anesthetics used may wear off more quickly during your procedure.
– How old do I have to be to get Microblading?
You must be 18 years or older to receive microblading.
– How many sessions of microblading are needed?
For most clients, two treatments of microblading are recommended; six to eight weeks apart. For most clients, after the initial healing period, your brows will appear lighter and softer. If this is your desired look, than you may not wish to have a touch up. During your second session, we will asses your healing, color retention and overall shape, making adjustments as necessary. If your microbladed brows do not heal perfectly after your initial session do not worry! The second session can correct any patchiness, and add more color or density as desired. If you have more sparse brows but wish to achieve a full, fluffy look, additional sessions may be necessary to reach your desired results.
– What factors will affect the lifespan of my microbladed brows?
Sun exposure will greatly soften the look of your microbladed brows. Once healed, it is highly recommended that you use a strong sunblock to protect your brows. How quickly your body absorbs the pigment as your cells regenerate. Each person heals at different rates and the slower that your body absorbs the pigment, the longer your brows will last. The pigment color choice is also a factor. Generally, the lighter pigments, such as blonde, will fade more quickly than the more bold colors, such as a dark brown. If you have had previous permanent makeup work done on your brows, your microblading may fade more quickly. Any bleeding during the procedure will affect the pigment absorption. Small amount of bleeding is expected, however, if you are an excessive bleeder this may reduce the amount of pigment that your skin absorbs. Alcohol and blood thinners must be avoided prior to your appointment, as these will thin your blood.
– How should I prepare for my microblading appointment?
Start by reading the Prepare section listed under Microblading. If you have an ideal brow shape or particular color, please bring photos for reference. Please remember that each person’s face and bone structure is unique and your brows will be mapped and predrawn to fit your individual structure; and photos will be used as inspiration and not an exact map. If you regularly have your eyebrows shaped or tinted, please do so at least 3 days prior to your appointment. If you desire a more bold, fluffy shape, then please let your brows grow out naturally prior to your appointment. Any excess hairs left outside of your final microbladed shape will be removed. If you have any vacations or important events, please be advised that the full initial healing period is 14 days. It is recommended that you plan your appointment accordingly. It is important to avoid any blood thinning products for at least 72 hours prior to your appointment. This included supplements such as fish oil, vitamin E, aspirin or ibuprofen, niacin, etc. Avoid alcohol the day of and prior to your appointment. Limit your caffeine the day of your appointment. If you have used Accutane in the past, you must wait at minimum of one year prior to considering Microblading your brows. Please avoid sun exposure (including tanning beds) prior to your procedure. If you have a fresh tan or sunburn the day of your appointment, you will need to be rescheduled and will be charged accordingly. This is important because as you skin exfoliates and sheds from a sunburn, your pigment will be shed as well.
– What is the long term care for microblading?
Once your brows are healed, a good sunscreen (at least 30 spf) should be applied daily to help preserve the lifespan of your color. As with conventional tattoos, sun exposure will cause your microbladed brows to fade more quickly.
Fading will depend on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, pigment color, and skin care routine. If you have chemical peel procedures done after your microblading is healed, this will increase the speed of your fading. While undergoing any aesthetic skin treatments, such as chemical peels, IPL or other laser treatments, be sure to inform your technician that you have had your brows microbladed , imploring them to avoid the area.
If you have excessively oily skin, your microblading may fade more quickly. The overproduction of oil will cause the strokes to heal with a more diffused look. It is recommended that you add shading to your procedure to help your color last. Your healed results may have more of a powdered look with less crisp strokes.
